Mitch-you have been a rock for this town in a very difficult, trying time. Let me be the first on this forum to wish you congratulations and good luck.

  2. Concerned Citizen says:

Little Birdie said Mr. Remig has a job that won’t allow him to seek re-election

  3. Nicholas Monaco says:

    Mitch,

Your maturity and desire to serve your community goes way beyond your years. It has been a pleasure working with you and I wish you much luck and success in your career. Your family raised you right, Mitch, and it shows.

  4. Jeff says:

Mitch, you are a good young man…… just ill advised,. Best of Everything.

    • Karen says:

Misguided you say? Perhaps you might want to ask Messrs. Schroeder, Leitner and Goss exactly where those monies they renamed “interfunds” at the beginning of Schroeder’s term as Mayor came from…I’m pretty sure you’ll get a REALLY misguided response. You see, they can’t let us know that those funds, which all of a sudden are being touted as a “surplus” were actually the result of planning and efforts by the PREVIOUS administration. Of course they had to misguide the towns people and move funds around until sufficient time had passed for them to be able to tout the “surplus” as their own…talk about misguiding people! Good thing Mitch didn’t listen to their misguidance about the in-house garbage or going with Brick for garbage collection, isn’t it?

      • Laura says:

The money wasn’t moved to the correct accounts during the Republicans run. When there is money left from a project, it is put in an account before it is transferred to the general account. It wasn’t done during the Republicans run. They were hoping to win a majority last year and then they would have all of a sudden found the money and been the saviors. Their own Auditors didn’t know about it. Sabosik mentioning the interfunds was a clue. Does his type of business deal with interfunds? He wouldn’t know an interfund from a piece of carpet. Now who could have told him where the money was squirreled away the previous years? It’s a 50/50 toss up whether our former CFO did it deliberately or it was just incompetence. Plus if that money was known about in 2010 (a Republican majority), we didn’t really need to merge furlough, share or terminate anyone. Did we?

No Mitch just wanted to spend another $38,000 more than we ended up spending on the garbage. What’s another $38,000. Should I genuflect to Saint Mitch? He’s playing the game to get a municipal, county or state job. That’s not a secret. Maybe a confidential secretary can find him an appropriate job.

    • Tom Szymanski says:

Jeff-Maybe you would consider doing your town a service and getting more involved in the process. This way there are fewer “misguided” people in the mix

  5. Pointboro2010 says:

Two great candidates were placed up by the GOP yet again. So what are the DEMS placing up to counter?

    • Cortland says:

Looks like another split ticket for folks who’d like to see some local business interest on the Council.

  6. AlexV says:

I look forward to reading and learning about the candidates. Good luck Mitch wherever life takes you.

  7. Karen says:

Kudos to Mitch Remig. In spite of constant attacks from those in town with an axe to grind against anything Republican, Mitch served his community in an exemplary fashion, proving them ever so wrong! His commitment to his community is UNQUESTIONABLE…

I am very proud to know Mitch Remig and sincerely thank him for his outstanding service to Point Pleasant. Instead of running off to Cancun during Spring break, he was working hard looking through garbage RFP’s…instead of buying a flashy sports car, he was working on a First Aide rig saving lives…instead of spending endless hours dancing at boardwalk clubs, he was going to college, working and training as a police officer and keeping his focus on achieving his goals – to become an educated, modern member of the law enforcement community. If his dedication, community service and strong ethics eventually lead him to a position within higher law enforcement, then which ever agency has the foresight to hire such an exemplary man should be comended!

  8. Concerned Citizen says:

    @Karen-

I guess you never went to the Idle Hour or Shore House and saw our esteemed councilman “feeling no pain”. Let’s not try to make him something he is not.

    • Karen says:

Concerned – nice try, but you can’t dispute the strength of Mitch’s commitment to our town. He’s not an angel – never claimed he was. But he is CERTAINLY someone to be comended and admired. Can only hope that more of the town’s young adults will follow in his footsteps.

Now, Slick, how about you address the issue I placed before Jeff – that of the obfuscation and misdiretion by your esteemed cohorts Schroeder, Leitner and Goss regarding the origin of the “inter-funds” and the shell game they played in trying to keep knowledge of these funds hidden until they could claim “Glory Halleluliah thanks to all our hard work, we have a surplus! ” Ask them how Council members Sabosik, DiPaola and Remig called them out on these “inter-funds” early LAST YEAR. Guarantee they will misdirect and misguide you – they can’t admit that very possibly those “surplus” funds were the result of steps taken by the PREVIOUS administration!!

      • Hindsight says:

Schroeder and Leitner threatened 30% tax hikes and 58 furlough days last year. Don’t believe me? Dig around the patch and ocean star websits and you will find these figures are correct! The dems actually made the above claims last year. You got it right Karen. They tell you the sky is falling and then take credit when it doesn’t. “The garbage will be piling up in the streets unless we borrow 840k.” Fear tactics. Deceit. These are Schroeder and Leitner’s ways

        • Laura says:

And in 2010, the Republicans threatened and tried to get rid of our Construction Department because it was hemorrhaging money. This year it isn’t. Funny how that turned out. Once Rogers, lost, Depaola, chairman of the Construction Department in 2011, never held a meeting that whole year and never mentioned that serious problem from the year before. Now why is that?

          • Outraged says:

Laura-There is a difference. At the time Rogers was screaming about Construction, it was roughly $170,000 in the red annually. That is true. Perhaps that is not the case anymore, but it once was. What can elected officials do other than react to what they see. But to deliberately spew misinformation(i.e. threatening 2 months of furlough and 30+% tax increases) is something completely different. It’s fearmongering. Both sides should stop blowing things out of proportion and just find a solution instead of sitting back, distorting, and saying this is how “Bad it could be.”

      • Concerned Citizen says:

        @ Karen-

Karen I admire people who go to war for their country at 18-19 years of age and put their life on the line, so that we at home can enjoy the liberties we have. Not people who are controlled by their neighbor and go to wars with their STEP-FATHER when they come home drunk underage! Thats some example being set by your Golden Boy. Just wondering, maybe he learned how to drink at the Forte…

        • Spooner says:

…so Concerned Citizen. . .what skeletons are in your closet. . .that we can gloat over?

Now it’s fair game to tell us that Rogers put up Remig for the Council. . .and you can even imply that he’s her lackey, although that’s more rhetorical than factual. . .But your crossing the line is when you publicize personal domestic matters . . .that if they had anything to do with his ability to do his job. . .that would have been decided when he was elected?

The simple fact of the matter is that he got 1200 votes more than his nearest Democratic rival who was supported by an $80,000 Fred Potter orchestrated union machine. . .making that private domestic matter . . .part of their political fodder? They lost!

PS: cut the Bull…”the Little Birdie told me” Either put up the evidence or shut up . . .

  9. Laura says:

    Outraged,

If you actually knew anything about the budget or Construction Department, you would know that it is cyclical. You cannot just look at 1 – 3 years and decide you have a trend. It doesn’t work that way. You must have missed those who actually knew anything (and I’m not talking Democrats or Republicans) talking about using at least 10 year ups and downs. Plus the fact that the Republicans never bothered to raise any of the rates to even keep up with neighboring towns, or staffed the department correctly. Keep trying to blame it on the Democrats who had control for 1 year out of 30. See how that works for you. Is that the Karl Rovian tactic? Blame your opponent for your mistakes and weaknesses?

Rogers and Depaola used fear mongering to try and push through Rogers’ agendas. The residents saw threw it, don’t you think? AND NOW SHE’S BACK!

So you don’t call insisting on saying you were going to lay off at least 6 cops fear-mongering? What planet do you live on? Have you been spending too much time at the Forte?

  10. Jeff says:

My Opinion of Mitch stands he is a good young man who was misguided by others. Tom, my ‘bona fides ‘are beyond reproach I have been as involved as anyone in many issues and in more places than this little corner of the world. When you get some more experience you will learn nothing is new under the sun and everything is not as it seems on the surface. It does take time though, hopefully you will open your mind to another point of view and not lash out like a reptile to anything that doesn’t plaese you.
