Point Pleasant Poet Performs in New York City

Point Pleasant resident Steve Peacock on March 16 will make a debut appearance as an invited guest reader at Cake Shop, a nightclub/café on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The venue is hosting the literary journal-release party of Monkeybicycle, an imprint of publisher Dzanc Books.

“Chipmunks,” Peacock’s epic, narrative poem, will be featured in Monkeybicycle’s soon-to-be-released Issue #8. Peacock will be one of several poets performing at the event, where he will read a selection of his writings.

“Getting published in a nationally recognized journal was thrilling in and of itself,” Peacock said. “You can only imagine how delighted I when the editors invited me to participate in Monkeybicycle’s New York City celebration of its latest publication.”

Peacock’s poetry also had been published by the Edison Literary Review, another New Jersey-based journal. He recently obtained state certifications as an English teacher after writing professionally for many years, primarily as a journalist. He previously worked as a congressional correspondent for Warren Communications News in Washington, D.C., for whom he wrote about technology policy during the last two years of the Clinton Administration and the first few years of the Bush Administration.

Peacock, who also previously worked in New York City as a hotel detective – or “hotel dick,” as the job traditionally is known – likewise is the author of Hotel Dick, a memoir about his experiences at the Helmsley Palace, Manhattan’s former playground of the rich and famous. Currently he is working on a memoir about a traumatic but ultimately life-affirming series of events he experienced while pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Cake Shop is located at 152 Ludlow Street between Stanton and Rivington. The event is scheduled from 7-9 p.m.
